- Rachis tough; internodes very short, narrow; grains very short, oval to elliptic, widest in the middle, occasionally in the lower third, thickest in the lower third; apex wide, rounded or truncate, sometimes retused; brush wide, short-haired, sometimes collared brush, especially in small grains; germ small, oval; radicle prominent or slightly so; plumule slightly prominent or not at all; ventral side flat, ascending at the base, sometimes also at the apex; crease narrow or mid-wide; cheeks rounded.
