- Diagnosis
- Leaves arranged in whorls of three, including two floating leaves and one submerged leaf metamorphosed into hair-like segments. Floating leaves round to ovate to elongate, petiole keel-like, midrib distinct and stout, lateral veins and tertiary veins forming quadrangular or hexangular areolae, usually with one tubercle in each areola, lateral veins craspedodromous, without forming marginal loops. Epidermal cells of floating leaves polygonal and irregular, stomata relatively small and encircled by epidermal cells. Submerged system branched and hair-like. Microsporangia ellipsoidal to globose, each containing no more than 32 microspores embedded in one
massula. Microspores trilete, with granules on the inner and outer surface of the perine.
