- Diagnosis
- Rhizome and main stem sections large; diameter, as estimated from flattened compressions, 1 to 1.8 cm; with 30 to 60 ridges; marked with irregularly distributed impressions of silica tubercules; stomata roughly aligned in 3 to 4 rows on the flanks of the grooves; nodal sheaths present, apparently shorter than broad, / 7 to 13 mm, w 1 to 1.8 cm; l/w ratio 0.73; shape cylindrical on the larger stems to swollen or tulip-shaped on the lateral
branches; teeth firm and persistent, acute to somewhat acuminate, 1 to 3 mm long; ratio of ridge number to stem diameter 3; whorl of branchlet scars present just below the sheath; lateral branches with at least 8 ridges and long internodes (43 mm).
