- Diagnosis
- Leaves large, lanceolate to ovate with acute
tips, decurrent, spreading and widely separated.
Amphistomatic, with persistent longitudinal stomatiferous
bands separated by a few rows epidermal
cells. Thick bundles of fibres in the leaf hypodermis.
Stomata oriented parallel to the long axis of the leaf,
but oblique and perpendicular stomata are present at
the apex. Waxy plugs present in stomata on both leaf
surfaces. Stomatal complex typically consists of four
subsidiary cells surrounding guard cells with rounded
apices. Walls of the epidermal cells straight.
