- Diagnosis
- Asterolith stellate, consisting of usually six (occasionally five or, rarely, seven) rays which are joined in their proximal half or one-third. Free, distal portions of the rays tapering gradually to a sharp point, and curved, all in the same sense, in the plane of the body of the asterolith. Centrally, a stem or knob projects from one surface. On the same side of the asterolith as the stem, each ray is raised as a prominent ridge extending radially to one side of the median line: the other side of the asterolith is more nearly plane. Total diameter usually 14-24 microns.
