- Diagnosis
- Same as for genus with the following additions. Well developed bract-scale complexes are always five lobed, with the stalk attached near the center of the ovuliferous scale at an oblique to almost perpendicular angle with respect to the lobed head (peltate configuration). Poorly developed bractscale complexes three lobed (having only distal lobes) to five lobed. Individual bract-scale complexes range from ∼2.6 to 11 mm in length. The shape of the central part of the head of well developed ovuliferous scales (excluding the lobes) varies from roughly elliptical to obovate to rhomboidal.
