- Vessels rounded or angular in outline,
mainly solitary, numerous (ca. 100 mm-2); tangential
diameter up to ca. 60 lm; vessel element length up to
890 lm. Perforation plates scalariform with up to 18 bars.
Intervessel pits mostly scalariform and transitional to
opposite and alternate, 4–8 lm in vertical size, with
rounded margins. Tangential and radial fiber walls with
circular bordered pits. Axial parenchyma diffuse, sparse.
Ray frequency up to 8 per mm. Rays uni- and multiseriate
up to four cells wide, heterocellular, with 1–3 (up to 6)
marginal rows of square and upright cells. Prismatic crystals
occur in square and upright ray cells.
