- Diagnosis
- An equisetophyte plant with alternating ribs,
elongated along the stem. The stem itself bears rare shoot scars
that are disposed at nodes. The stem nodes of fertile axes have
no leaves or scars of their attachment. Sporangiophores are
combined into compact fusiform or ovoid strobili. The strobili
are attached to the stem laterally or terminally. The
sporangiophores consist of peltate sporophylls, mostly of
hexagonal shape, and sporangia are adaxially attached to the
sporophyll. The strobili could be sessile or disposed on a stalk.
