Diagnosis
Shoot phyllotaxy unknown, leaf arrangement unknown, probably spreading. Leaves c. 1.5 mm wide, length unknown (probably > 20 mm), bifacially flattened, single veined, lanceolate, base and apex unknown, margin smooth. Stomates in two zones on each leaf surface, 4 or 5 stomatal rows per zone on ‘lower’ surface, 1 stomatal row per zone on ‘upper’ surface (unequally amphistomatic), randomly orientated, haplocheilic, dicyclic, encyclocytic, typically with four subsidiary cells, outline angular (polar subsidiary cells project beyond margin of lateral subsidiary cells), stomates in discrete rows, short chains, polar subsidiary cells never shared, rows densely packed- epidermal cells within stomatal zone thicker walled and typically narrower than normal epidermal cells’. Guard cells sunken, subsidiary cells at same level as encircling cells, cuticle on all cells in stomatal rows markedly thicker than on normal epidermal cells. Polar and lateral extensions not pronounced, forming continuous ring. Stomatal pore rounded. Subsidiary cells flush with rest of leaf surface (no raised rim around stomatal pore). ‘Lower’ surface epidermal cells in files, typically rectangular with straight, unbuttressed anticlinal walls, outer epidermal surface subdued. Glabrous. ‘Upper’ surface epidermal cells in files, typically rectangular with straight, unbuttressed anticlinal walls.
