- Secondary xylem with stem wood structure, growth layers distinct
with an abrupt transition from early to late
wood, late wood layers with dark contents
distinctly marked, tracheids with and without
scalariform thickenings, radial walls between
thickenings entirely occupied with bordered
pits, in tracheids without scalariform thickenings
bordered pits on radial and tangential
walls protopinoid; axial parenchyma sparsely
scattered, rays uniseriate and partially biseriate,
to 30, mostly 1-12 cells high, ray cells on
average 20 pm high, between ray cells and
tracheids intercellular spaces, walls of ray cells
smooth, small taxodioid pits in the cross-field,
