- Plant small with a rhizomatous growth habit. Rhizome with repeated K- or H-shaped branching producing upward-directed fertile axes and downward-directed axes developing further K- or H-shaped branchings. Naked erect axes, 0.7–1.9 mm wide, with basal K- or H-shaped, upper isotomous branching and small protuberances. Spikes consisting of at least six to 10 sporangia, 7.8–14.2 mm long and 3.4–5.2 mm wide. Helically arranged sporangia generating roughly four vertical rows. Sporangia round, 2.2–3.5 mm wide, and 2.0–4.1 mm high, inserted at an acute angle by short stalk on axis. Stalks 1.3–1.6 mm long and 0.6–1.0 mm wide. Sporangia dehisce along a narrow border, extending along the convex margin of sporangium.
