Originally incorrectly given as "Trochodendrospermum arcticum (Brown) comb. nov. ", being based on the fossil-species Cercidiphyllum arcticum (Heer) R.W. Brown (in J. Paleontol. 13(5): 492. 6 Sep 1939). The corrcet basionym was not cited: Populus arctica Heer (Fl. Foss. Arct., 1: 100. 24 Mar 1868). The neotype designated for "Trochodendrospermum arcticum (Brown) comb. nov. " is nomenclaturally inadmissible: 575—372 (Institute of Biology and Soil Science, Russian Academy of Sciences, Vladivostok, Russian Federation) [fossil seeds], since the fossil-species Populus arctica was lectotypified by a specimen (fossil leaf) by Iljinskaja (in Takht. Iskop. Tsvetk. Rast. SSSR ed. 1974, 1: 93. 31 Mar 1975).
