Diagnosis
Wood diffuse-porous. Narrow vessels (tangential diameter b 100 μm), dominantly solitary or in short radialmultiples, occurring in low density (b10 per mm2). Simple perforation plates. Intervessel pits non-vestured, alternate of polygonal shape. Fibres libriform, thin-walled, sometimes septate. Rays almost exclusively uniseriate, rarely biseriate, exclusively heterocellular, composed of procumbent cells, with 1–3 rows of upright and/or square marginal cells. Axial parenchyma paratracheal vasicentric, sometimes aliform confluent. Diffuse apotracheal parenchyma rare. Rhombic crystals abundant in the axial parenchyma and in the rays.
