- Leaves obovate to obovate-lanceolate or lanceolate, narrowing gradually to an acutely acuminate base and more abruptly to an acute, pointed, sometimes prolonged apex; length from 3.5 to 6.5 cm; maximum width from 1.5 to 2.9 cm.; petiole rather thin and up to 9 mm. long; midrib rather stout, usually straight or but slightly curved; 6 to 10 pairs of slender secondaries, sub-opposite to irregularly alternate, leaving the midrib at an angle of 30° to 50° or rarely as. high as 80°, and terminating either in the marginal teeth or the sinuses between the teeth; finer venation indistinct; margin with 3 or 4 pairs of lobate teeth, though in some cases the lo bate character is not pronounced; teeth sharp-pointed and directed slightly upward; texture rather firm or sub-coriaceous as indicated by the curling of the leaves and the indistinct tertiary venation.
