- Diagnosis
- Incubously foliated liverwort with conduplicate-trilobuled, entire leaves with a dorsal lobe elliptical, rounded at apex, lacking ocelli, with a ventral lobule adnate to lobe remotely from stem, and distinctly diverging from stem, forming a widely clavate or obovate or almost cylindrical watersac not or slightly constricted above the mouth, with smooth surface, with a mouth generally directed toward the base of the stem, elliptical underleaves almost as long as wide, widest near the middle, bilobed 0.39–0.44 the length, with the apical half of underleaves armed with 1–2 short teeth on both sides. F. schmalhausenii differs from the most similar fossil species F. baltica by the ventral lobules 1.36–1.66 times longer than wide, with the upper third
inflated backward, toward the stem (versus the ventral lobules 1.63–1.82 times longer than wide, with the upper third inflated forward, away from the stem in F. baltica).
