The ordinal name is rejected into synonymy of newly established order name Langiophytales Doweld (2001) in order to base suprageneric nomenclature on the stems of the generic names based on gametophytes (as it is accepted in the modern systematics of bryophytes and marchantiophytes) rather than on the generic name Horneophyton which represents itself a sporophyte.
