- Leaves needle-like. Regular epidermal pavement cells oriented longitudinally, arranged in longitudinal files, usually rounded-rectangular to isodiametric, usually with a single small, solid, hemispherical papilla. Stomatal complexes forming prominent, deep stomatal crypts with usually a single stoma per crypt, either scattered irregularly over the entire leaf surface or arranged in discontinuous to regular longitudinal rows; neighbouring cells surrounding crypt opening narrow-trapeziform, arranged radially, bearing
a single low papilla arching towards the crypt opening; crypts two cells deep; one ring of papillae per crypt-wall cell layer.
